Lady of Guadalupe
6 April 2009 by jimmerI read about this the other day and thought,
“What a Hoot”. Apparently this is some big deal in Mexico. And I gotta say I am no fan of Hillary Clinton but, Good Job Madam Secretary.
Mexico City, Mexico, Mar 27, 2009 / 04:59 pm (CNA).- During her recent visit to Mexico, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made an unexpected stop at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and left a bouquet of white flowers “on behalf of the American people,” after asking who painted the famous image.
The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was miraculously imprinted by Mary on the tilma, or cloak, of St. Juan Diego in 1531. The image has numerous unexplainable phenomena, such as the appearance on Mary’s eyes of those present in the room when the tilma was opened and the image’s lack of decay.
Mrs. Clinton was received on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. by the rector of the Basilica, Msgr. Diego Monroy.
Msgr. Monroy took Mrs. Clinton to the famous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which had been previously lowered from its usual altar for the occasion.
After observing it for a while, Mrs. Clinton asked “who painted it?” to which Msgr. Monroy responded “God!”
The rest of the article is Here:
I won’t say much about the lady of Guadalupe except for this.
In 1531 a “Lady from Heaven” appeared to a humble Native American at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of what is now Mexico City.
She identified herself as the ever Virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for whom we live, of the Creator of all things, Lord of heaven and the earth.
And Here is some reference to the Lady of Guadalupe
Why this is funny is because I want to think that Clinton knowingly asked who painted it in spite of the official church propaganda claiming it was imprinted by Mary. Magically and Mysteriously.
Also Why, if she made an unexpected stop, had the cloak been lowered for the occasion? And why is it always some humble native who has the vision? And by the way that was some introduction she gave herself to a humble native.
The Pic is a picture of Atheist toast. It has not been imprinted with anything except toasting. Attributed to Mrs.B (AKA Chi)

What do you mean nothing’s on the toast? Obviously there’s an elephant, which must have been put there by our lord Ganesha.

If that is a lack of decay, then Mary must be one sloppy painter! Gosh bless her for tryin though!

I think she even signed it down there on the bottom right corner if I’m not mistaken.

Love this pic of Hillary staring at it:

You can almost read her mind thinking, “This is it?”
(As a painter God’s got nothing on Bob Ross).

Yeah Jimmer…I think Stardust had a fairly recent Post related to this kind of common, delusional malarkey…
“pareidolia”
“There is an universal tendency among mankind to conceive all beings like themselves, and to transfer to every object, those qualities, with which they are familiarly acquainted, and of which they are intimately conscious. We find human faces in the moon, armies in the clouds; and by a natural propensity, if not corrected by experience and reflection, ascribe malice or good- will to every thing, that hurts or pleases us.” –David Hume
Here are two article links RE the ‘debunking’ of what’s perfectly obvious to us atheists…a FRAUD!:

Hmmm, looks just like the face I saw staring back at me from my bowl of cornflakes this morning. And to think I ate it too. Does that make me a God-’ater?

It would be cool if she knowingly asked that question, but we’ll never know…
I’m guessing that she didn’t. She’s a pretty busy woman and all, so I don’t think she has time to research all the tourist attractions she sees before she sees them. And that’s what I consider that painting to be… just a damn tourist attraction.

Last night, while preparing a pot of my original, Irish spaghetti sauce, I retrieved a half onion that had been hiding in the recesses of my refrigerator for a little too long.
There was a perfect little smiley-face on my onion. Two perfect little green sprout eyes, and a perfect little smiley grin.
Of all the rotten Irish luck. Others find images on cloaks, shrouds, tortillas and mirrors and become rich and famous. Me? I find a smiley-face on an onion!
But, damn, I make a good spaghetti sauce.

As Carl Sagan pointed out, it would make more sense, if there was a god wanting to communicate with humans, that he/she/it would put a giant cross or Virgin Mary or other religious symbol in orbit around the Earth, not paint it on the cloak of some poor 14th century native.
Surely Hillary Clinton wasn’t that out of it to not realize what she was looking at and “accidentally” questioned the means by which the image got on the cloak. I prefer to think she was being deliberating skeptical for the on-lookers.
If you want to see something even more “miraculous” check out this typewriter artist. http://onemansblog.com/2007/07/15/jorge-castillo-the-typewriter-artist/

Obviously, my typo (deliberating, should be deliberately) tells everyone I have little hope of achieving works of art via typewriter.

^ Holy fuck, Lynda, that piece of typewriter “art” (is it perhaps titled: “Chimpy eating shit” ?) might qualify for a Masters, or even Doctorate thesis in Typing. [a final in"Advanced Typing 666"?]
The degree being, of course, “MT” or “PHT”?
More likely, taken on a computer: “MCT” or “PHCT”?
Offered, perhaps…ONLY Online…at totallynuts.com…urbonkers.com?
Or…hoplesslyinsane.org?

Funny thing, not only do I see an elephant (seriously, no one else does?) I also see Mothra.

Why this is funny is because I want to think that Clinton knowingly asked who painted it in spite of the official church propaganda claiming it was imprinted by Mary.
I think that Hillary, being as intelligent as she is, asked the question on purpose to make a point. Just wish she would go a few steps further and recognize god belief as completely delusional, also…however, that would probably be political suicide for her to stop pretending.
Love the atheist toast, btw.

While we’re discussing US officials visiting other nations and trying to set the record straight about religious “idols”, if you’re interested in thanking Obama for his statement in Turkey go to this site….
http://action.secular.org/t/5367/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=27003
At a press conference yesterday in Turkey, President Barack Obama repudiated the Religious Right’s fallacy that the United States is a “Christian nation.”
“One of the great strengths of the United States,” the President said, “is … we have a very large Christian population — we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.”

Lynda, I just saw your comment here now after posting about this. Makes me feel a wee bit better about Obama as our fearless leader.
