Nine-year-old ‘incest victim’ aborts twins
A nine-year-old girl who was carrying twins, allegedly after being raped by her stepfather, has undergone an abortion despite complaints from Brazil’s Catholic Church. Police said the stepfather has been jailed since last week. Abortion is illegal in Brazil, but judges can make exceptions if the mother’s life is in danger or if the foetus has no chance of survival. Fatima Maia, director of the public university hospital where the abortion was performed, said the 15-week-old pregnancy posed a serious risk to the 36-kilogram girl. “She is very small. Her uterus doesn’t have the ability to hold one, let alone two, children,” Ms Maia told the Jornal do Brasil newspaper. But Marcio Miranda, a lawyer for the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife in north-eastern Brazil, said the girl should have carried the twins to term and had a caesarean section. “It’s the law of God: do not kill. We consider this murder,” Ms Miranda said in comments reported by O Globo. Calls to Ms Miranda were not returned.Brazil is home to more Catholics than any other nation.

There’s one part of the story that you left out.
The archbishop has called for the excommunication of the doctors who performed the procedure that probably saved this poor little girl’s life. Funny, no mention of excommunication for the guy who raped her in the first place. But the church has no real problem with raping children. If they did, they’d have to admit that most of their staff would be sitting right by the fire in the never ending BBQ after they kicked off.

See, the problem is, the girl didn’t cry loud enough while being raped, so that the people inside the gates of the city could hear her. So really, Brazil is actually being quite generous to her by not stoning her to death for losing her virginity out of wedlock. She should feel grateful.

This is yet another reason I am atheist. The poor girl is 9 years old and it is surely a health risk. And also, how do they expect a 9 year old to care for 2 small children? They also said that they wanted her to carry the fetusus to term and have them by c-section. WTF?

Sarah Palin is probably upset about this and would side with those gob botherers who say that the girl should have kept those babies to term, because they are gob’s blessings, you know.
That is one of the cruelest suggestions I have ever heard. The little girl has been severely traumatized as it is with being raped by her own stepfather, and then they want her to go through a dangerous pregnancy that would endanger her own health and have a c-section on top of it which would leave her literally scarred for life?

And no mention at all as to How sick and disturbing it is that a 9 year old girl was raped. Proof that “Religion Poisons Everything”. In a nation that yields to this religious power and control. It is no wonder at all as to how demeaning it must be for all involved in saving this young girls life.
Previously posted here at GIFS about why we atheists keep talking about god. If people know that it is OK to not believe then maybe they will have the courage to live in and around such assholes. And to live without the blessing of the church as an example of how the church has become irrelevant.
Once again the church has not let me down. They have followed through on the most incidious lie that can be. A 9 year old girl should give birth to a rapists babies. It is also clear that the church does not want to address the real issue of rape. The church has it’s own pedophiles to deal with and harsh treatment is not included. I have read comments regarding this that made claims that it was possible that the girl was NOT raped. And through some convoluted reasoning came up with that possibility. I think that is the same convoluted reasoning that the church and all pedophiles use to reliquish the real resposibility of this incident. As well as all incidents regarding rape and sex with children.
It really is fucking pathetic to think that someone could be so devoid of humanity. And that they would force this girl to carry the babies to term.

Exactly! She cannot consent. Any and all sex with her is rape. PERIOD (Although the “allegedly” could be referring to the “stepfather” part of the crime. She may have been raped by someone else.)
Given the fact that the Brazilian population is mostly Catholic, the little girl would have likely suffered all sorts of emotional and verbal abuse from self-righteous morons had she been forced to carry the twins full term. She would have been called all sorts of names and likely taunted by her school mates for being an unwed mother. And her twins would be “bastards”, too, forced to live with that hanging over their heads for the rest of their lives. What a nutty bunch!

If the “allegedly” on refers to the identity of the rapist, then anybody and everybody should instead say “the 9 year girl was raped — allegedly by her stepfather — …”
But no. We’re so used to blaming rape victims, that this shit passes without notice.
Also they put scare quotes around the type of victim she is, too. ‘incest victim’ — as if there is any chance whatsoever she’s not, in obvious fact, a victim.

In the article posted by jimmer we read that the mother and doctors are to be excommunicated, yet the stepfather who has done a runner is not included in the church’s disciplinary action. Figures. Those brainless black-robed bum wipes will no doubt provide refuge and sanctuary to the pedophile while they make life for the mother even more difficult. So very typical.

But…
I’d also hazard to guess that Brazil has a much higher CONCENTRATION of fucking idiots due to the overall number of religious fuckwits residing there. Like brazilian him/herself.

The Vatican agrees with the brazilian decision. Apparently it is far worse to have an abortiion than it is to rape a 6-9 year old. The rapist is in protective custody for his own safety. More at Huffington post.
This seems so bizarre to me. Why is the church so determined to stop contraception and abortion but refuse to aid in stopping war and violence? In other words. Why haven’t they excommunicated all of the Bush admin who voted to invade Iraq based on lies?

I understand your position. What I am refering to was on a bigger scale. The entire Senate has Catlicks who voted for war. Also there are many catlicks in the government who shun the churches teachings and make up their own. All along the church does nothing. When was the last time you heard of anyone in the U. S, being excommunicated?
The rules are applied on an as needed basis but usually only in a place where the RC has Power and Control in large quantities. None such power in the good ol U.S. I’m afraid. But plenty in Brazil and other countries. And only it seems when they the church can get away with it and make an example of someone or other.
I feel for this poor girl knowing how this has developed and how she will be made to feel responsible in some way for causing so much trouble. Unless that is she has support from people who reject the superstitious church’s decision.

The fact that the Catholic Church (as a global institution) has this opinion about abortion doesn’t mean all catholics share it.
I’m brazilian and atheist, but have loads of friends that are catholic and they were ALL against the CC’s opinion.
Of course I’m sorry about what happend to the girl but this episode was good in a sense that it makes the church loose some more followers and bit more of its “power”.
