The Catholic church never ceases to provide us with stuff to make fun of. Recently, Pope Ratzi blessed two lambs whose wool will be used to make shawls for newly appointed archbishops to wear. The whole scene, as shown in the photo here is rather ridiculous looking. The poor creatures are tied down and adorned with flowers. Eeenie Meenie Jelly Beanie, the spirits are about to speak!
VATICAN CITY – Pope Benedict XVI has blessed two lambs whose wool will be shorn to make shawls for newly appointed archbishops to wear.
The annual blessing takes place on the feast day of St. Agnes, a martyr of early Christianity often symbolized by a lamb.
In the ritual Wednesday, the pope blessed the animals as they lay in two baskets. Each lamb wore a crown of flowers on its head.
New archbishops receive the wool pallium on June 29. The pallium is a band of white wool decorated with black crosses that is a sign of pastoral authority and a symbol of the archbishops’ bond with the pope.
CHICAGO – A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the state law requiring a moment of silence in public schools across Illinois is unconstitutional, saying it crosses the line separating church and state.
“The statute is a subtle effort to force students at impressionable ages to contemplate religion,” U.S. District Judge Robert W. Gettleman said in his ruling.
And before the religious go boo-hooing and crying persecution, they need to keep in mind that they are still free to pray their magical mental messages to their god at any time as long as they aren’t disruptive.
Adam Schwartz, senior staff counsel of the American Civil Liberties Union, said the organization was pleased with the decision “to strike down a statewide law that coerced children to pray as part of an organized activity in our public schools.”
He noted that students remain free to pray on their own in a non-disruptive manner throughout the school day.
During a 2003 lecture also posted on the internet last year, Mr Hamza told followers that under Islamic law, men could demand sex from their wives. Despite Australian laws requiring consent, he said it was impossible for a man to rape his wife even if she refused to have sex. He also said that Islamic law allowed men to hit their wives as a last resort – but were not allowed to leave them bruised or bloodied. [...] In the lecture, titled The Keys to a Successful Marriage, Mr Hamza mocks Australia’s sexual assault laws that require consent for sex between a man and his wife. “Amazing, how can a man rape his wife?” he asks. Mr Hamza, a cleric in the Melbourne suburb of Coburg, said a man could hit his wife on the hand or leg – but not on the head. [...] In his lecture, Mr Hamza said a man was entitled under Islamic law to demand sex from his wife. “If the husband was to ask her for a sexual relationship and she is preparing the bread on the stove she must leave it and come and respond to her husband, she must respond,” he said. He also said men could advise their wives they would be beaten if they were disobedient. “First of all advise them,” he said. “You beat them … but this is the last resort. “After you have advised them (not to be disobedient) for a long, long time then you smack them, you beat them and, please, brothers, calm down, the beating the Mohammed showed is like the toothbrush that you use to brush your teeth. “You are not allowed to bruise them, you are not allowed to make them bleed.”
WESTON, Wis. — Kara Neumann, 11, had grown so weak that she could not walk or speak. Her parents, who believe that God alone has the ability to heal the sick, prayed for her recovery but did not take her to a doctor. After an aunt from California called the sheriff’s department here, frantically pleading that the sick child be rescued, an ambulance arrived at the Neumann’s rural home on the outskirts of Wausau and rushed Kara to the hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival. [...] About a month after Kara’s death last March, the Marathon County state attorney, Jill Falstad, brought charges of reckless endangerment against her parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann. Despite the Neumanns’ claim that the charges violated their constitutional right to religious freedom, Judge Vincent Howard of Marathon County Circuit Court ordered Ms. Neumann to stand trial on May 14, and Mr. Neumann on June 23. If convicted, each faces up to 25 years in prison. [...] About 300 children have died in the United States in the last 25 years after medical care was withheld on religious grounds, said Rita Swan, executive director of Children’s Health Care Is a Legal Duty, a group based in Iowa that advocates punishment for parents who do not seek medical help when their children need it. Criminal codes in 30 states, including Wisconsin, provide some form of protection for practitioners of faith healing in cases of child neglect and other matters, protection that Ms. Swan’s group opposes.
While it is true that God created the world and all that is in it, including doctors, we must note: Jesus never sent anyone to a doctor or a hospital. Jesus offered healing by one means only! Healing was by faith. Yes, God created doctors but only to give man a choice between man’s ways — the doctor — or His way — faith! When we don’t have faith we need the doctor and it’s obvious that most want-to-be Christians need the doctors because they have no faith in God; their faith is in man.
And there ya go. All neat and tidy — and only 300 kids dead…
A) David J. Stewart [Referring to the movie “Evan Almighty” which features a black actor as God]
Where is the humor to be found in this? I suppose the producers of this film are banking on the return of Morgan Freeman, as a nasty talking, ghetto-acting, colored Lord and Savior, will appeal to enough people to fill the theaters.
B) ><>Karatemum<>< We are all born with that ‘God Spot’ that only He can fill. Even the atheists and agnostics have to admit that something in their lives is missing, because they can’t quench the ‘God Spot’ with anything else in this world.
The God spot that is created in each and everyone of us gives me a reason to believe that all these tribal groups that have never heard of the name of Jesus, will still have a chance to accept him. I know this is not in the Bible, but neither does the Word speak of such people. I do believe that somehow they will know…maybe by messenger angels…before they die and have a chance to acknowledge Jesus as their Lord. Thats MHO.
C) Garvan Ellison The Lord has told me in a Word of Knowledge that He will strike you down if you do not cease posting here.
D) HeartBrokenBrad [responding to a post about how his religion is unoriginal]
whats funny is that my legend is the oldest out of all of them.
E) Raani Starnes The stories about Sodomites in the Bible teach us that they do violate women as well as men. I’ve also known of people personally over the years who were known as gay yet “experimented” with the opposite sex. The term bisexual is an unnecessary distinction, because a faggot wants to defile anyone or anything he can get his hands on.
A friend recently sent me this article about a “gay-friendly” high school. If we were living in a biblical society, homosexuality would be punishable by death so such a school would be unnecessary. Although I’m against the special accommodations, perhaps this new trend of segregation will protect straight kids from these predators. With any luck, some radical will blow up the gay school. No, I’m not condoning vigilantism–I’m merely saying that it would be poetic justice.
F) Jayden’s Mommy Should I send my Atheist neighbors a CHRISTmas card?
They are so lacking in any kind of mirth all the year. I think they need Jesus in their lives, but I am afraid the card will remind them that they have not accepted christ and might be not going to heaven. I don’t wont to make them less miserable at this time of the year, which is about love.
If the following was on the list, I would vote for it but it was just posted this first month of the new year:
Caneman, Since you are an atheist your arguments are meaningless to me because they rely on logic…
In other countries those people would have been shot. In a Theocratic U.S.A. those people would have been shot. We do not need the religious. We need rational people in our Gov’t. We need to spread the notion of reason at every step of the way.
I’m being positive tonight because the change is happening and I am feeling Optimistic for the first time in a few years. In spite of a poor economic downturn. I think that is the reason freedom outsells all other ideologies. And maybe freedom isn’t really an ideology so much as a matter of being.
Freedom is not about God or religion. And No god gave freedom to us. We claim it, as is our birthright.
From the inscription at the base of the Statue of Liberty:
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
I hope Barack Obama removes the Burqa and shackles that the Bush administration placed on our freedoms.
