Pat Condell’s latest message
2 January 2009 by StardustPat once again with a very articulate critique on religion:
Then here is what Pat is talking about Muslims who believe Christmas is “evil” because Allah has no offspring and Christians are going to hell for such blasphemy. One delusional group warning another delusional group about a fictional place of eternal torment — and they both worship the same imaginary God of Abraham!

Love that guy!

Phony as a clip on bow tie. Hehehehehehehehehe.
Now see there is the problem right there. Clip on or tied who can really tell? Real Xian or fake Xian who can tell? They all look alike to me.

Ah yes a voice of reason in a wasteland of vacuous prevarication, that’s what I needed to restore my will…….

Hmmm…Stardust…”The water of life”, huh?
Somehow considering what’s going on…and has ALWAYS gone on, on this Planet…I might term it:
“The Cesspool of life”.
I know, more dark cynicism.
[Since nobody seems to be around today...a little rant is in order?...and why the fuck not? Yeah, AND...it's a dirty job, but SOMEBODY has to do it? Also...
If I yodel...or blow one of those long, low register, alpine horns...will I get an (never ending) echo?]
Two, NO, THREE (Thwang!) things brought that up; watching the Science Channel this afternoon…a program about fucking dinosaur extinction…and a commercial comes up about selling a stupid, fancy crystal cross with the “Our Farter” embedded in it…in small (tiny fucking) print. WTF! Who runs the “Science Channel” anyway, to mix that shit with the subject of Science??? Another one that comes up often, is a stupid DVD set of Buybull reading crap. So you’re watching some intelligent, informative Scientific material, and stupid religion comes up! ARRGH! Ya just can’t can’t get away from that ultra-delusional shit!
Of course, money and stupid greed RULE!
OK…the “other thing”, is remembering a comment by the LONG gone actor, George Sanders (”All About Eve” and many others). When he committed suicide (in the 1950s?), his suicide note referenced this world as a cesspool.
On that note…”B double flat? (A)…
Happy New Year…again!
What!…”Hold on to your Gyros”
(no…not the sandwich; but, as in gyroscope?)

I was expecting him to go down a Dune reference path when he started talking about the Water of Life.
The spice must flow!!

Hey he’s wearing a BC Lions tee-shirt! I don’t have one of those and I lived in Vancouver for years. Great video too, as always.

Todd, to the post I removed. I should have checked before posting that Florida story…I read the Snopes thing right as you posted your comment. Thanks.
DJ…it’s not a true story.

While Pat makes some valid points in this You Tube video, I find his salutation of “Merry Christmas” to be confusing and hypocritical. He could have just as easily said, “Season’s Greetings” or “Happy Solstice” or “Best Wishes” thus leaving all connection to the Xian religion out of it. This type of inconsistency in thinking and expression should be avoided, especially when making critical statements about other people’s beliefs. Xians have a hard enough time understanding the many inconsistent messages of their Bibble without atheists bringing them the same confusion.
His message that “morals” coming from “within” have a superiority over morals inspired by religious dogma has a very shaky footing. There is no scientific evidence that “good” socially acceptable behavior is essentially hard-wired into humans. Most studies seem to suggest that our social conduct is governed by the standards laid down by the society we inhabit. We cannot divorce ourselves from the society in which we are raised. We are all conditioned from the time we leave the womb to understand that certain behavior is acceptable and a lot of what we do is simply to avoid the discomfort of being denied privileges that our society affords us. The debate on nurture versus nature is still very much alive. More study of ape societies may eventually give us a better understanding of how we evolved to have certain principles recognized as “moral” or “ethical”.
In the full scheme of things, living on a planet that will eventually burn up in the heat of its sun, we have really only one reason for not behaving “badly”. That reason is, in my humble opinion, LIFE IS MORE ENJOYABLE WHEN PEOPLE COOPERATE AND HELP ONE ANOTHER OUT.

It is confusing and hypocritical to hear die-hard atheists use Xian slogans after a big rant.

I wonder if anyone has pointed this out to Pat in the comment thread. I am going to read through it and if no one made that point I think it would be a good idea to explain this to him. And even if someone else has already, explain it again. He needs to think more carefully about what he is saying in these videos and not give the god botherers ammo against his argument.
I often think about the thing you said about the Sun burning up and the Earth will be no more. So, it would be nice if humans would all realize this, and understand how short our time is here even for our Solar System. Bill and Ted summed it up with “Be excellent to each other” and that is a good motto to live by. But many humans don’t give a shit, especially the religious ones.
