Yeah, Naomi…
Like, I’m guessing, you and many others on GifS, will immediately do their revisions on the piece of Dominionist crap.
[Or am I the only sick one here?...erm...'Sicko'?]
OK…Some of mine?…
Side One:
First off…have one of those (I don’t think it’s ‘holographic’) images that changes with the angle of viewing…
You get the idea…Jeebus/Satan or maybe…Jeebus/Neanderthal…alternating?
United States of America = (change to) United States of Dementia
Jesus Saves = Jesus Slaves
Peace On Earth = Piss On Everybody
(fooled ya on that one, huh?)
Side Two:
United States of America = (same as side1…Duh!)
In God We Trust = In Lies We Thrust (not so good?) or maybe In FSM We Pasta?
As to, The Lard is my ShempHard…OK…erm…
Just replace the 23rd Psalm (Scam) with some atheist sayings; like maybe…
“Fuck the 23 Psalm!”
(Yeah…I know…WAY harsh!)
“Religion poisons Everything”
“God is Delusion”…etc.
As to the PICS…
the left one = Eric Idle singing (ala “Life of Brian”)?…
the right one = a flying eagle, crapping on John “Let The Eagles Fly” ‘Asshat’
I’m done!
19 July 2007, on 2:13 pm
Oh…addendums?
side 1; under the PIC:
“Cum on me”…? [Yeah; it's getting filthy!]
And, of course:
(for all you chefs?)…
“Praise the LARD!”…or..LARDASSES?
NO?
Yeah…like Revenant(?)…probably too much time spent on the Internet!

hehe I resemble that remark!

You know, this is another waste of time by ‘Christians’(referring to the creation museum post).
As far as marriage goes, let the state dictate the laws and let all ceremonies be held in a courthouse and if the couple wants to make a religious ceremony out of it, go to the church, have the ceremony, get it blessed by a pastor and if the church refuses to bless it, it doesn’t matter. Because now the couple has health benefits (necessary), has dental coverage (necessary), vision (necessary) and if they adopt a kid (which is the only way to have a kid aside from artificial insemination in a same sex relationship) the kid will be covered by all of the above (necessary). This way the church can do its thing, seperation of church and state will protect them from getting sued from ‘rallying against the gays’, the state can do its thing and we can wash our hands of this whole mess and stop wasting everyone’s time and money.
Of course I’m in the camp of no one (gay and straight) should be allowed to get married until every one is allowed to eat everyday. I guess I’m just more of a human rights than civil rights guy. But we live in a world of confused values (look at all the money spent on the NCAA BCS championship game alone, not to mention the Super Bowl and all the other crap that gets the financial attention it doesnt deserve) so this will never change either.

The best hate money can buy.
And all backed 100% by jebus himself.
19 July 2007, on 5:35 pm
I tried to porno-ize it, beyond the “go fuck yourselves”, with words like “butt plugs” and “I’ll even buy the dildoes!” but it seemed excessive, once I’d typed the words.
I finally decided to just use the elegant words of their PuppetMaster…you know, the Veep who gets the Bus-boy excited so he can be manipulated into doing the PM’s dirty work. Iraq. Iran. Syria. (But not, you will notice, Saudi Arabia!)
The Bus-boy is the public face of DickVader.
(Sincere apologies to honest and hard-working bus-boys everywhere! As a former waitress, I respect the job that they do. And I wish they were more respected. They need to be unionized!)

I just don’t get it. Why the hell are so many Christians just obsessed with stopping homosexuality?
There are plenty of other terrible things in the world (not that I believe that being gay is wrong, mind you) that their Bible teaches against, so why aren’t they going after them as much? I mean, there’s murder, poverty, dishonesty in business and politics, diseases, wars, child prostitution, etc, I would think that even the most deranged fundie would see that these things are infinitely more wrong than two consenting adult males having sex in their own homes.
So what is it about gayness that gets the fundies all riled up?

“So what is it about gayness that gets the fundies all riled up? ”
Apparently it was ‘love of the forbidden’ (hand jobs and meth) that excited Haggard

The group I usually hear from is Concerned Women for America. I never understood how discriminating against gays is pro-woman.
But in response to your question Sarah, I think a part of it has to do with the fact that gays are a small minority, geographically dispersed, disempowered, and therefore easy to discriminate against.
Because homophobia might predate organized religion, it might also be innate in us and therefore fundies are able to tap into that.
20 July 2007, on 1:38 am
How is homophobia innate when in many civilizations it was actively encouraged?
20 July 2007, on 4:35 am
Why do they think protecting the gays from discrimination will make them superior to the Christians?
Is their own self-esteem really that fragile?
20 July 2007, on 1:07 pm
^ Oh, look, a troll, a troll!
And probably a closet gay himself, as well…
20 July 2007, on 1:22 pm
But in response to your question Sarah, I think a part of it has to do with the fact that gays are a small minority, geographically dispersed, disempowered, and therefore easy to discriminate against.
*sigh* Why does religion inspire so much hatred? They talk about how loving their god is, so shouldn’t they at least try to act the same way?
I find myself getting more and more pissed off at religion. All it does is put up barriers between people.

This is insane. I reviewed the AFA’s “summary” of the bill. It’s chock with blatant misrepresentations and flat-out lies. I read the actual text of the bill and nowhere is there any language present that undermines free speech. In addition, the AFA’s claim of Peter Pace’s being “fired” for expressing his views on gays is completely false. Pace had to be reconfirmed to serve another term. Bush decided not to nominate him again, perhaps partly due to Pace’s recent statements about homosexuality but more probably because of the state of the Iraq War in the past few years. Point is… NO ONE’S rights have been infringed upon. Pace has the constitutional right to publically state that gays are immoral. And the public has the constitutional right to call him a bigot for it. That’s America.
20 July 2007, on 4:25 pm
Sarah, I have wondered that same question for a very long time. In my mind, there are four main reasons: 1)xtians feel that gay people “flaunt” their sin; 2)xtians feel that anything having to do with sex is wrong; 3)xtians are afraid that gay people will “convert” their children; and 4)they may have repressed homosexual feelings themselves.
Another question that I have always wondered why so many women are Christians. They aren’t treated as equals, can’t be leaders in some cases, and are supposed to be submissive to their husbands. Misogyny runs wild. The biblical treatment of women is abhorrent. The whole thing makes me want to vomit. But, I’m off topic now. I apologize for that but I was writing while angry.

All springs from early Judaism’s more staunchly anti-assimilationist phases, too, when they came up with more “divine laws” for themselves to differentiate themselves from their neighbors, and especially the Greeks & Romans, who were much more comfortable with and less uptight about human sexuality.
I remember hearing a Rabbi state once that among sins, Homosexuality was actually a pretty minor offense in the comparative ranking of sins, but I’d just rather dispense with the whole woo notion of “sin” anyway.
For the Romans in particular, homosexuality qua homosexuality was ok; what was impermissible is for someone of higher social rank to be put in a “submissive” position to a social inferior while engaging in such activity–that was THEIR taboo. I don’t fully understand Roman sexual morality, but for some reason that sticks out in my head. I think that was a Roman thing, too–not so sure the Greeks before them had anything quite like that.
The Ancient Egyptians, too, were more “at home” with human sexuality, near as I can tell. So much so that it embarrassed later sexually repressed Victorian-era British archaeologists who were among the first to really dig deep (no pun intended) into Egyptology, etc. Some Egyptian creation-myths were laden with heavy sexual images and allusions. Some of this stuff is only recently coming to light, having been ignored, glossed over or even suppressed by Victorian-era scholars.

Yeah, I get the sense that a lot of opposition to letting gays adopt children is that religious homophobes seem to think that gays will adopt children of their own gender and then use them as sex slaves.
If you want to take that logic to its extreme, then hetero dads should not be trusted to refrain from raping their own daughters.

JJR…
Your comment got me thinking (humorously, of course) that we could use something like an atheist “ADULT toy store”…perhaps, something like…
“Pagans Are Us”…? [I also kinda like: "Heathens Are Us"]
Somewhat related…how many of youse guys just CAN’T wait for the “stroke of midnight” to rush out and buy your copy of the last episode of Harry Potter? Hmmm?
[it's still not midnight, here...as I type!]
Coitenly, NOT me! [I hate running out!]
And, as long as it’s Friday…I say…with Naomi’s permission?…why not a little, JJR inspired, off-topic excursion?…
Yeah, more and more…in my old age…I’m relating, very comfortably, with those ancient pagan attitudes! Ever since I was a Catholic indoctrinated kid in the 1940s…after seeing Boris Karloff in “The Mummy”…I became somewhat of an Ancient Egyptian fanatic. I used to always go directly to the Mummy exhibit, when visiting Chicago’s Field Museum; and the Mayan Exhibit, as well. The Field’s exhibit had an actual “X-rayed” mummy on display. [I actually...in the early 1980s...played a trio gig in the Main room. It felt strange looking at all those old exhibits; remembered from my childhood. Like, "who would've thunk I'd be playing music there?]
Much later in life, I was told [in a "Past Life Reading"...during my New Age phase]…that in one of my supposed post-Atlantean, Ancient Egyptian “Past Lives”, I supposedly died young at about 16 years old…bitten by a poisoness snake. Nothing was said about any “Kingliness”…or “Queenlinesss”…though.
Yeah…I know…”Woo-Woo”!
OK…as per my usual…

They hate homosexuals for the simple reason that they are different. No more, no less. The religious find comfort in all that is the same. They cannot stand anyone “flaunting” their individuality. This goes for any large subculture. If they cannot control it, then it must be eeeevil. Their power lies in conformity. Those of us (atheists, homosexuals, goths, punks, bikers, etc) that exist outside of their realm of influence need to be wiped out.
However, the original Christians disliked homosexuality because the Romans were so comfortable with it. Virtually every “sin” can be traced back to the Roman society. Simply put, they hated the Romans and wanted all of the people that also hated them to join their cult so anything Roman became evil.

When will fundamentalist Christians realize that the rest of us (sane, rational) folk are doing them a favor? Rather than being rude and calling them out for their regressivity, stupidity, ignorance and bigotry, we try our best to nudge and prod them along the way towards civility, humanity and inclusivitity.
But, prejudice has always wrapped itself in the flag and the freedom it symbolizes. Not to mention holy books.
It’s shameful that some of U.S. citizens choose to act this way, but it has long history going back – for example – do the days of slavery when Christians were wrapping themselves in the Constitution (States’ Rights) and the Christian Bible to make a stand for the rightness of segregation and slavery.
Fast forward 150 years, and the despicable hatred and prejudice haven’t changed, nor has its rhetoric or tactics. All that has changed is the victim of their bigotry and intolerance.
Fortunately, history is on the side of ever-expanding freedoms, even if it means shaming God-stands-behind-our-prejudice bible-thumpers to do what is right in the name of humanity.
23 July 2007, on 11:46 am
I think you are right, Chaoswes. Which, I believe, is also why political reactionaries and fundamentalist religions make such wonderful bedfellows. They strive to maintain the status quo – maintain “sameness” as it were. Variations and deviation are not to be looked upon as opportunities to understand and grow; but rather anomalies to be feared and abolished.
24 July 2007, on 3:53 pm
ChuckA, I love old black-and-white horror movies, almost anything with Boris Karloff in it, and anything Egypt- or mummy-related no matter how campy or kitsch (Did I mention I’m a pulp-o-phile? Do I have to?)! I’m definitely checking out your links and that buttered popcorn yen has come upon me as well.
Chaoswes and MSK, and yet the irony is that they do change, usually without acknowledging it of course; Jerry Falwell was one of those who started out opposing the civil rights movement but flip-flopped as soon as he saw it was winning more hearts and minds than outright segregation support.
Unfortunately we may be heading back in that direction; did anyone get any details on the recent overturning of public school busing?

Gay people SHOULD be persecuted. It’s gross. really gross. just watch some dude on dude porn, it’s disgusting.Where’s your world-famous xian love, Yolanda? You are the problem, not the solution. Loons like you need to do some research and stop this hate! Gays are people just like you. Why that bothers you is something you need to examine in your hard and withered heart.
Just a thought, Ya-Loon-duh!: your savior would have hung out with gays and shunned haters like you!
May peace find a home in your hard heart, child…

Well, maybe not persecuted, but Teased. Homosexuals should be teased relentlessly for being nasty. No violence necessary. Not much better, Loonie-lady! You are only trying to hide your hate – not give your love…
Bad, child! Very bad! Hate will eat you alive and deny a spot in your Eternal Spa Adventure. Think carefully on your next words. And on how you handle this issue for the rest of your life. Much may be riding on it.

It’s odd that we can’t separate the hate-crime bill from gay marriage. In my opinion, the former is much more important than the latter. The latter might just be destructive to a certain group, and it ain’t the straights.
It’s also undeniable that people in general (not just Christians) fear what they don’t understand. That was likely a good thing once upon a time, but now, it just creates a dysfunctional society.
What’s more, gays shouldn’t really be not understood anymore. There happens to be a lot of gayness in our (pop) culture and there will likely be more in the future. I guess the fact that a lot of people choose to stick with an outdated book is really hindering humanity’s progress.
25 July 2007, on 10:40 pm
It is not just that Keith. They refuse to expand themselves to new perspective, so they cannot understand it. They do not even read their own outdated book; it is only second sourced and hence the butchering. As human beings, we always want to be right; to seek euphoria from our righteous. So if we make others bad about themselves, then we can feel about ourselves.
27 July 2007, on 8:43 pm
I’m still not sure I believe in “hate crime.”
If hate takes the form of vandalism, then vandalism’s the crime. If it takes the form of assault and battery, then assault and battery is the crime. If it takes the form of murder, then murder’s the crime.
I also have a problem with the term “date rape,” because to me, rape is rape. There’s no such thing as “date murder,” is there?
Regarding our troll: I suspect “Yolanda” is a male hiding the homophobia fueled by his closet homosexuality behind a female pen name, thinking that homophobia is somehow more acceptable if coming from a woman – and missing the huge irony in choosing a disguise that makes it OK to be sexually attracted to men!
“What you resist persists…”
29 July 2007, on 7:43 pm
Hate crimes?! So if I hate gummie bears then it a crime? What the hell? I think the first thing we need to do is revised the dictionary.
