That continent wasn't a mystery to Portugese fishermen, who sailed north along the coast of Europe and then crossed at Greenland to reach cod fisheries of Newfoundland prior to Columbus' trip. Today the Portugese will tell you that the reason they didn't brag about this "discovery" is that no one gives up their best secret fishing hole. Still, the book looks fascinating. I had no idea the flat earth idea is so recent. I’m curious about the idea that a ship sailing west to reach the east would fail because it would run out of food.
