GifS A.V. Club: Bill Maher on Whiny Xians
3 April 2006 by SeanVia onegoodmove.org… Friggin’ awesome:
Bill Maher On Oppressed Christians
He is specifically talking about the ludicrous “War on Christians” event where scandalized former bug killer Tom Delay made an ass of himself recently. Thank Cthulhu somebody is pointing out this ludicrous hypocrisy on national television.
And I love how he says the Bushites don’t even represent Christ’s ideals. American theists need to hear that.
Almost makes you think Maher’s writers have been reading God is for Suckers!

I’m a huge Bill Maher fan. First, his libertarianism appeals to me politically. But mainly, he just does a tremendous job of revealing Christianity for what it truly is: a second-rate superstition, as Tom DeLay might say. One of these days, on my blog, I’m going to post a collection of Bill Maher’s best anti-religion rants.
It’s amazing he isn’t a self-proclaimed atheist, but rather an agnostic. I wonder where, in the universe, he sees any evidence for any deity at all.

Best line: “You know Christians, I don’t mind that you’re part of a dress-up cult that hates sex and worships magic…”

You probably just need the free Quicktime 7:

Here’s another in both QT and Windows Media:

In response to FrnacestheMagnificent-I remember seeing an interview where he called himself an agnostic, but it seemed to be that he only didn’t call himself an atheist because he thought that atheists believed they could prove that god doesn’t exist, rather than simply believing that no evidence for god exists (to be sure, there are concepts of god that are logically impossible, so they can be disproven). He probably just needs to think about it more, and perhaps he does it to simply avoid being labeled an atheist. I doubt he’s agnostic with respect to unicorns.

I mostly like Maher, except for his insistence on the vaccination/autism link in spite of the lack of empirical evidence. It makes me a little suspicious about his critical thinking ability.

Oh, I definitely have has my suspicions about his critical thinking before. He gets it right a lot, and then sometimes really loses me. His book “When You Ride Alone, You Ride With Bin Laden”, for instance, is wildly uneven.

PS: those who could not view the video should definitely go get the latest Quicktime I linked to above (it’s available for both Mac and Windows). The file format onegoodmove is using is called m4v and it is slowly taking over (it’s the format friendless to the video iPod, for instance). You can view m4V files in the latest Quicktime or iTunes, both of which are free.

I meant “friendliest” to video iPod

I watched that 3 times last night. It was terrific. Thanks!
