GifS A.V. Club: Who is God, What’s [He] Like?
2 April 2006 by Sean
Is there a gawd? Well, of course there is. That goes without saying. I mean, he made this planet right? (No thought whatsoever of anything beyond this dustspeck of a planet.)
Well, what’s he like?
Um. Really tall?
Yes, all this and more in this sweet little video that proves without a shadow of a doubt that critical thinking and belief in deities have nothing in common.
Only the gal who describes gawd as a “spectator” comes close to having a brain in her head.
Enjoy! (or weep)

Sean –
It’s funny how they all tried to come up with physical human attributes for an invisible gawd no one has ever seen. It’s similar to the evangelizing xians do…each one has the story different.
I agree…only the girl who described gawd as a spectator was close to having a brain.

What’s funny is that this was, of course, made by a religious organization that thought they were making something uplifting:

First, ask a lot of kids, so they say stupid, conformist shit. Let only a few pseudo-adult clips into the final cut. Throw in some teen just before the end who says gawd watches over all of us. But what’s funny is that the older teen girl by that point has already made a pretty good argument that if gawd is even there, “they” (notice her refusal to assign a gender) could give two shits about us. Thereby undermining the whole rest of the video.
Gotta love it.
I’m enjoying religious multimedia more and more by the day. This stuff is fun to seek out! Anybody else wants to suggest or post to the A.V. Club, feel free!

I particularly enjoyed how the youngest kids seemed to not care. Ahh… conformity will get them later.

This little clip is not nearly as embarassing as I thought it would be. After all, if someone asked you a question about a subject with which you had no personal experience and to which you had never given a moment’s thought, you’d probably sound just as articulate.
The kicker, though, is that if asked, all these people would probably describe themselves as religious. Conformity indeed.

Praise Gawd in all of the majesty of his… height.

I guess what I thought was amusing was, yes, that they had not thought about the subject one iota, yet they still have an opinion.
That’s like going up to someone and asking: “Can inert nitrogen be converted to create more reactive compounds?” and having every person say “Yes” without a moment’s thought. But then asking them “Can you name one such reactive compound?” and getting nothing but blank stares.
What fascinates me, as a person who was never indoctrinated, is how immediate and unthinking the “yes” response is.
