Well it’s a good thing they were granted permission to eat meat …now all the sins they’ll commit while they’re drunk will be washed clean …and they can all go to heaven.
I was worried that one of them might drunkenly plow into a strip mall, kill 10 people, and not go to heaven!

Here’s something cool for St Patrick’s Day:

There’s no mention if the Archbishop consulted with god about this matter. So if the Archbishop, who is only human, can give permission they why couldn’t the people decide for themselves?
I know, I know, sheep and flocks…

Reminds me of reading about how the church would sell indulgences to make money for all the art that they were commissioning during the renaissance… Some how I don’t think that that is what “paying for your sins” is supposed to mean…

And yet Catholics get offended if you call them mindless automata who allow the pope to think for them. Go figure.

Great. Now Catholics can get back to the important business of what kind of dipshit they are going to look like on St. Patty’s Day:

Can you imagine, Needing to ask permission to eat anything at all? Self-indulgent if you ask me.Don’t they do that no meat on friday for god? Then why is a celebration about one of god’s own, not celebrated in obedience to that? Puzzling I must say???My ancestors were Irish and I never did get that green beer bullshit. Mine left (Ireland) and were quite tired of Kings and that bullshit. So I thank them for that.
And I like it just fine No kings, No other royalty and no gods. What can be better? Oh PS those are not no kin to me.LOL

“Don’t they do that no meat on friday for god?”
Actually that was started because a way back pope had a brother (or some relative) that was in the fishing business.

Chris, a few things.
1) There is no life after death, you only exist once.
2) Heaven doesnt exist, neiter does Jebus or Gawd.
3) And finally, take your religious crap elsewhere, we dont need it here.

Ah yes, the Great Corned Beef Dispensation Question which arises every six years. You may laugh, but to those of us entrusted (coerced) into the preparation of the traditional American Irish Catholic celebratory meal it is a question of vital importance. As of yet no enterprising food company has developed an acceptable corned tofu. Ten of thousands of Roman Catholic cooks wait for that dispensation with an anticipation equal to a lunar landing. If the Archbishop’s voice came crackling across our television sets proclaiming “the eagle has landed” it could be no less dramatic. The looming spectre of serving salmon to a cranky group of St. Patrick’s Day revelers is banished.
Lent is a confusing concept for non-Catholic Christians and arguably complete nonsense to Atheists. A kind reminder that for believers it is a time of reflection and self examination. It can actually be rather peaceful. I’m nearly certain that during the Middle Ages when complete abstinence and fasting was enforced it was a relief for many women. To be freed for forty days from the cycle of repeated impregnation with a man who bathed twice yearly was most likely a “thank you Jesus moment”. Think of it as Church sanctioned birth control.
I do harbor a slight suspicion that now meatless Fridays are more of a disciplinary attempt on unruly American Catholics. Many diocese through out the world do not have this restriction and some of the exemptions are interesting. In Venezuela the Archbishop declared the capybara, the semi-aquatic and world’s largest rodent, to be fish. Since the meat of the animal comprises the main protein source of an indigenous population living at a subsistence level the proclamantion was greeted with elation by all, with the notable exception of capybaras.
In response to “Captain Al”, the Archbishop doesn’t confer with God on these matters. By virtue of his position he has dietary police powers. Recent events have shown that one need only confer with God if one is the President of the USA and is contemplating foreign invasion.

More proof that religious people are stupid sheep. Following the stupid rules and rituals of some idiot religion including what to and not to eat and when to eat certain foods is quite ludicrous. Religious jews have even more stupid rules with their running home on Fridays before sundown and then not being able to spend money or use any electronic device on Saturdays, that’s absolutely INSANE in today’s technological world. Virtually everything relies on electricity, can they even get a soda from the fridge or look at a clock ?? Might as well be in a coma for a day. Of course they also have stupid food rules and the concern of some stuff being “kosher” or not. Lets not forget the hindus with the incredibly stupid “sacred cow” crap. They would rather let themselves and their children starve rather than to eat beef, well that’s crazy and it’s child abuse. Religious people are like a flock of mindless sheep (or chickens) with a few strawmen in the fields.

To quote Homer Simpson: “Mmmmm. Capybara.”
On that note… I am on my way to India to bring the Hindus the wonderful news that cows are not in fact their ancestors, but the souls of dead Muslims that they killed in last year’s pogroms. And to tell the Muslims that pigs are really made from fried chick peas. There will be much feasting and rejoicing.

I believe religion is a manual for alavery because everywhere there’s religion theres a slew of under-educated, over-worked, basically senseless people. Look at it like this if the Africans were believed to be animals whom were incapable of learning how to do things why were they forced to learn the american religions but also at the same time forced to stay uneducated. If religions main focus is to uplift people wouldnt you think that learning to read and write is a form of uplifting, after all the ten commandments were said to have been written on stone what use would they have been if Moses couldnt read. Yet the bible and many other religions talk strongly of the division of labor, this (the division of labour) is the true purpose of religion which is why is served as governments for so many centuries. Now that america and a few other countries have ’solved’ the division of labor problem have you noticed the compulsion to be of any particular religion is no longer forced. One question, Why are all the leaders of religious organizations rich and yet still take from their poor followers?

[...] This person says this crap with remarkable assuredness. Where is the Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Travel Book to Heaven? Clearly this guy has one. I’m a visual kinda guy. I wanna see the damn pictures, man! If I am going to buy a one-way ticket to eternity, I wanna know what’s really there, how to hail a cab, how to find a urinal in a heavenly tabernacle (piss off the side of the cloud?), where the best prix fixe dinner is on a Friday night (and those side-street pubs where you can get a corned beef cabbage sandwich during Lent). I don’t want some cheap-ass tourist brochure. I want the Lonely Planet Guide to Heaven! After all, it will be a lonely-ass planet filled with SINNERS after the righteous have ascended! [...]
