Antidote to Kansas
9 November 2005 by SeanIt’s about time our side won a few:
Snippet:
In Dover, Pennsylvania, where a court battle rages over the teaching of an “intelligent design” alternative to evolution, voters ousted eight of the nine incumbents on the local school board who supported that curriculum.

Oh, and prop 73, which I blogged about earlier, was defeated, too! Ha!
And all of Arnie’s top initiatives (most of which were power grabs meant to weaken his opponents’ ability to fight his party) got stomped.
Yesterday was a good day.

Great… but that’s only a small step. A better step would be to take away the stupid post altogether.

Francois: what are you talking about? Are you suggesting I remove a post from our blog because you don’t agree with it? Or are you talking about something else entirely?

I always have trouble trying to figure FT out. From his bloggin’ I’m pretty sure he’s a good guy…

I’d really like an answer from FT. Are you telling me you think my post about prop. 73 was stupid? Because if so, I would love to argue your ass into the ground on the subject. As our illustrious Commander in Thief says: bring it on.
If not, and you meant something like “post” as in “political position”, my apologies.
But I make no apologies for my previous post nor this one.
Arnie got throttled, and he fucking deserved it. Hooh-hah!

So there are some brights left …I was starting to get worried that my prophecy wouldn’t come true…
Chris 1.2 …after the “200 years of outright proof” (2733-2933) most of society finally agreed that science made more sense than any god… in the year 3039 science came to the point where only a few questions remained unanswered… churches dwindled due to empty pews and the people of the world could easily get around on a Sunday morning.
BTW: Chris 1.1 …Chris’ 95% Rule: 95% of people are assholes.

“Chris’ 95% Rule: 95% of people are assholes. ”
Chris, you are too kind.

I voted against Prop 73, and I believe I was the tie-breaker =)

Sean,
Did you party in the streets after the election results nationwide? I was happy, to say the least. Hopefully, this will continue into 2006 and maybe we will see an impeachment or two.

Marcus: Hey, there is always a party in San Francisco, every night of the week. Ya just need to seek it out.
There has been much discussion about how this might influence ‘06, and much disagreement. Off-term elections can sometimes be a barometer of where things are headed, and sometimes not.
I tend to be arrogant enough to say that it affirms something I have been preaching to my defeatist (why are liberal-types so defeatist??) friends for some time.
There is no conservative revolution happening here. It is all an illusion, spawned by opportunistic politics surrounding 9/11.
Of course, if there is another major attack on a 9/11 scale, all speculation — and all bets — are off.
I just want to see this:
Recognize that in an increasingly global culture, with increasingly global communications technology (hello, you are looking at it right here), jingoism and nationalism have no place at all. Twain said ” Patriotism is usually the refuge of the scoundrel.” Hell yeah, Mr. Clemens.
Einstein said we would only survive the nuclear age with a one-world government. I agree. As fucked up as it is, the U.N. is our best hope. Just think about why it was created. Because twice in a matter of a few decades, the entire world went to war, and scores of millions were killed.
John Bolton is the last asshole that should be there as our rep.
We will win. The creationists, the primitivists, are actually quite frightened, because the world is being secularized before their eyes, and Sky Daddy is not there. This theocratic/fundamentalist shit we are seeing may be a last spasm to re-embrace what Carl Sagan called, as I have mentioned before, “The Demon Haunted World.”
Okay, end rant. I could go on about this forever. But I am optimistic for the first time in a while.
Let me enjoy this manic episode.
Peace… and I mean it.
