NARAL ad accuses Roberts of supporting Christian terrorists

9 August 2005 by Sean

Snippet:

NARAL’s ad focuses on Roberts’ work in Bray v. Alexandria Women’s Clinic. In that case, the court voted 6-3 against a Virginia clinic and others that said the group Operation Rescue had denied women their right to abortions by blocking access to clinics. (O’Connor was among the three dissenters.)

The clinics wanted to use an 1871 civil rights law to make women a protected “class” of citizens who were under threat from clinic blockades. The clinics also accused Operation Rescue of encouraging those behind “hundreds of acts of violence,” including 48 bombings, at clinics.

Roberts argued that it would be wrong to use that law against Operation Rescue. The law initially was designed to protect ex-slaves from Ku Klux Klan harassment. The first Bush administration said applying the law could violate protesters’ speech rights.

P. Z. Myers says what should be said

9 August 2005 by Ron

I’m a big fan of P. Z. Myers’ Pharyngula — lots of fun biology and smart opposition to anti-science and anti-rationalist bullshit (like, you know, “intelligent design“).

Apparently, he’s been getting a lot of whining from even allies about making some strongly atheistic comments (which, of course, only makes me want to have his baby). And he gets the answer to them just right in his post “Warning: this weblog is run by an atheist“. Read it for yourself; I’ll just quote the last bit here: “…if I can be comfortable with your belief that I’m going to burn in Hell, you should be able to cope with my belief that your god-bothering nonsense is a steaming heap o’ BS.”

Google bombing "Intelligent Design"

5 August 2005 by Ron

In response to the pathetic comments from W the Moronic Shrub on teaching “Intelligent Design“, as if it were some kind of scientific theory, there’s a move afoot to Google bombIntelligent Design” by linking it to the National Center for Science Education’s “Defending the Teaching of Evolution in the Public Schools“. I encourage others to play along.boobs ddpussy megashots pantysex fratmodels matureindigo girlsscreaming sexfuckers ass Map

America: leading the world in science since the 19th Century

3 August 2005 by Sean

Our esteemed and educated leader thinks schools should teach the completely baseless “science” of intelligent design. This is all I have to say to him.

Miracle at Pearson Airport

3 August 2005 by Sean

Apparently, decades of diligence toward passenger safety had nothing to do with the survivors of a Toronto plane crash today. “It’s nothing short of a miracle,” Canada’s Transport Minister Jean Lapierre said after learning everyone on board Air France flight 358 from Paris had survived.

Thank you, god, for slapping our plane out of the air, yet rescuing us from it at the same time. You truly work in mysterious ways!

No Way

2 August 2005 by Bob

Wow, I guess this sells the whole thing for me: Bush endorses ‘intelligent design’: Contends theory should be taught with evolution

And if Dubya endorses it, you just know it’s gotta be on the up-n-up. With his qualifications, I’m turning over a whole new leaf on this issue.

*Sigh*

SARAJEVO (Reuters) – Christians are flocking to a northwestern Bosnian town to view an image of Jesus Christ that allegedly appeared in a section of a cut tree branch two days ago, Bosnian media reported Friday.

The image resembling Jesus’ face cannot be seen from a close distance but only from a few meters away. The branch in the town of Bijeljina was cut about a year ago, said Oslobodjenje daily.

Sceptics have dismissed the image as a freak of nature, but pilgrims have been streaming to the tree, kneeling before it to pray, lighting candles, leaving money and cutting off bark to take home.

The region’s Serb Orthodox bishop Vasilije visited the site and said church officials would discuss the phenomenon and advise believers how to behave. He appealed to visitors not to destroy the tree and not to leave money at the site.

Ever wonder what fucking planet you’re on? Humans are just so wacked. Ugh.
