Wow, what a nutjob. Ann Coulter’s little op-ed about the Supreme Court shows the kind of fuckin’ psycho she is: SUPREME COURT OPINIONS NOT PRIVATE ENOUGH.

I’d give some highlights, but her reasoning is so far gone I can’t keep track of all of it…

Thomas Jefferson and the Antichrist

3 December 2003 by Glenn

For those of us who are sick of hearing opponents of church-state separation babble on about the Christian faith and theocratic intentions of the founding fathers, heres a satisfying story about a scandal during Thomas Jeffersons presidency. It erupted after Jefferson offered Tom Paine his high esteem and effectionate attachment and passage on a U.S. government ship to return from France:

Unfortunately for Jefferson, Paines reputation in America had not aged well. When he landed in Baltimore, the local newspaper caught the mood by observing sarcastically that our pious President thought it expedient to dispatch a frigate for the accommodation of this loathsome reptile. Paines chief offense was not that he was a practicing alcoholic with the social graces of a derelict, though that was true, but rather that he had written The Age of Reason, which was as full-throated an attack on Christianity as Common Sense had been on monarchy. By publicly associating with Paine, Jefferson exposed himself to the full-broadside blasts of the Federalist press as an arch infidel, a defiler of Christian virtue and a companion of the most vile, corrupt, obnoxious sinner of the century. All Americans who took Christianity seriously now had to make a choice, said one editor, between renouncing their savior, or their president The attacks were relentless and unequaled in the early history of the young nation for their polemical intensity It was, in a real sense, one of Jeffersons finer moments, since he was fully aware of Paines notoriety but stuck by him to the end, even inviting him to live and dine at the presidential mansion for several weeks. Federalist editors had a field day describing the two Toms walking arm and arm, allegedly comparing notes on the ideal way to promote atheism or their past successes in despoiling Christian virgins. (Joseph Ellis, American Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson, pp.256-257)

Seeing the Landover xmas special reminded me of the Objective: Christian Ministries site , which seriously hates LBC and wants to shut them down. Check out their “Landover Baptist Shutdown” page for more details at http://objective.jesussave.us/. My all time fav, though, has to be the “antitriclavialism” bit. Looks as though someone got a thesaurus for xmas!

Michael Newdow and the Supreme Court

2 December 2003 by Glenn

The Washington Post has a story about Michael Newdow, the man responsible for the Pledge case that will come before the Supreme Court (An Allegiance to Dissent ). Yesterday he won the right to represent himself before the Court. I guess he’s done a good job so far, but he seems like a bit of an odd bird, and his family politics could be a big problem. I hope he doesn’t fuck this thing up.

Morality Bullshit

1 December 2003 by Bob

More dumb-ass bullshit concerning morality. Once again, xians are stroking themselves and the people they know: Ten Commandments: Some local officials more reluctant to enter judicial fray

State Rep. Ron Forster, who shares with White a district that includes sections of north Whitfield and Murray counties, said he is “absolutely” in favor of passing a law saying local governments may display the commandments.

“The Constitution only says the government shall not sponsor a religion,” Forster, R-Ringgold, said.

Asked about opponents’ argument that atheists or those who practice other religions feel they will be discriminated against when they see the commandments in government buildings, he said it “carries no weight.”

If a judge or public official doesn’t believe in God, “then that person is more likely to be corrupt,” Forster said.

The translation is obvious: “Hey, I believe — and since I’m just a fucking AWESOME moral individual, it follows that people who don’t believe are more likely not to be a moral as I am. Damn, I’m cool.” Even if the evidence showed anything like a connection between religious belief and moral behavior — which it doesn’t — it wouldn’t show that YOU, dear xian, are more moral than anyone else, believer or not.

Yes, what humility. Humble before god — but to every other human, you’re just another pompous, self-righteous prick. Get over yourself.
