Supremes tell Judge Moore to fuck off

21 August 2003 by Ron

The Supremes have declined to to block the removal of Judge Roy Moore’s Ten Commandments: Supreme Court rejects Ten Commandments appeal. C’mon, Roy, don’t back down now. I want to see you cuffed by U.S. Marshalls.

Another pledge law, another ACLU-led judicial block

20 August 2003 by Ron

Colorado made it law that everybody in schools should do the “under Dog” pledge; our heros at the ACLU got another federal court injunction to stop the enforcement: Judge blocks Colorado Pledge of Allegiance law. Is this what Nietzsche meant by “eternal recurrence”?

Skepticism and religion — the moderate philosopher’s take

19 August 2003 by Ron

Paul Kurtz has a typically thoughtful and moderate-without-copping-out piece in the July Skeptical Inquirer in which he asks Should Skeptical Inquiry Be Applied to Religion? (Um, yeah.) Not really the GIFS “kill em all and let the enzymes sort ‘em out” style, but a good piece.

Fixing things and a new URL

19 August 2003 by Ron

The God is for Suckers! blog is fixed. I’ve dumped the terrible old hosting service and have a nice new one. We have a new URL: god.ozrock.net. The old URL should already have a forwarding notice, and eventually (maybe quite soon) will just point to the new location. The new domain is percolating through the net, so it’s possible that your local name server won’t be able to find it for another 24hours or so. I’ve also added an independently hosted administrative notices page here and linked it in the links section.

Let the godsmacking resume.

Judge Roy Moore is defying the federal court ruling that told him to take the 10 commandments down. He figures a Christian Nation like Amerikkka needs to stand up for what’s right. Hope they throw his cracker ass in jail for contempt. Judge won’t remove Commandments

Dr. Laura slithers back — but do we want her?

13 August 2003 by Ron

The evil Dr. Laura, who blamed her atheism in younger years for those naked (but not actually sexy) pics that surfaced on the net a few years ago (oh, just google it yourself) is turning her back on her conversion to Judaism. WorldNet Daily (and Xian rag) wants to spin this like she’s going Xian, but you read it (New turn in Dr. Laura’s spiritual journey). The girl has returned to us. Just no more nudie pics, Laura, OK?

Burl explains about crime

12 August 2003 by Ron

Kind of worth reading Religion and prison: A long history together from the fine Shreveport (LA) Times just to get to this line: “‘Even if I was an atheist, I would want to have religion in my prison,’ said Angola Warden Burl Cain, explaining that people with strong morals don’t commit crimes.”
