RE: “Exposing the Atheist,” some really good stuff there:

Atheism is therefore a doctrine of demons, and in many, if not all cases, atheists are demon-possessed.

I am? Really? When did this happen? I don’t feel like I’m demon-possessed. But I guess that’s the funny thing about being demon-possessed: it just sneaks up on you…

More on the We’re-Not-Really-Praying-We’re-Just-Really-Quiet bullshit. Silent Minute in Schools Gets Nod:

AUSTIN In less than 60 seconds, the Texas Senate voted Tuesday to require the state’s 4.1 million public school students to pause for a daily minute of silent prayer, meditation or reflection.[...]

“I can’t imagine anyone that would be opposed in these very tough times to let our youngsters take a moment of silence in school and have silent prayer,” Dewhurst said.

“Or reflection or meditation,” Wentworth said. “So we’re not insisting that they pray, just so long as they’re quiet for a minute. That’s all we’re asking.”

A nice little article on the religion-coercion-theme. Humanist Talks About Counseling in the Military

Beck said he’s wary of chaplains who say they would not impose their beliefs on others, regardless of the setting. He said chaplains tell him they provide services to everybody, regardless of their religious beliefs, but Beck said he thinks their spiritual beliefs obligate them to try to care for people’s spirits and souls.

Yes, always concentrate on the part that’s invisible — that’s the way to make others think you’re really saying something important…

The New York Times gives Rod Paige a nice smack today. Some highlights:

Despite Dr. Paige’s later claim that his remarks applied only to higher education, they were too destructive to be waved off with a clarification. The secretary of education needs either to do some fast fence-mending or step down.

Routine statements of belief in pluralism sound hollow coming from public servants who make a habit of wearing a particular faith on their sleeves.

This piece from Newsday (one of my favorite papers, of course) is the kind of thing that often passes for critique of religion: Some religions have lost their “spirituality”, but all of them are fundamentally “based on a single and universal human experience of spirit – invisible divine reality. In other words, beliefs divide people and experience unites.” What bullshit; let’s pretend that all the differences and vicious disagreements aren’t real, but just covering and obscuring the shared center, had by all — except, of course, atheism, which “by the 20th century… had deprived life of meaning.”

Where Is Religion’s Spirituality? Busy taking out the trash for its bullshit dogmas.
